Excommunications follow abortion: update

This whole story has me shaking with intense rage.

Here are a few selection of quotes from the Archbishop Gomes Sobrinho:

On why the paedophile father was not excommunicated:

"He commited an extremely serious crime. But that crime, according to canon law, is not punished with automatic excommunication. Abortion is even more serious."

"God'a law is above whatever human law. So when a human law is contrary to God's law, this human law has no value."

Yes, who needs democratically built laws, build slowly over centuries based on our shared human experienes and by learning from the mistake of our species. Laws that actually do attempt to take human empathy, compassion and justice into account. Sure they have a long way to go but why even bother? Let us all revert back to a book written by bronze age peasants, for whom a wheelbarrow was future technology, and declare that book above everything else.

These people cannot provide a first hand evidence that this God entity even exists but can read it's mind and speak for it and declare that the junk they spew is above all human law.

The only silver lining in this story is that the excommunication is actually liberation for these people. They deserve to be freed from this fascist, primitive organization while the paedophile father deserves to rot in it.
